Diptychs.
In my first year studio class, we were given an assignment to make two sets of diptychs: one featuring the use of gold leaf and the other referencing childhood experiences. My gold themed pieces reflect a silly notion that the art industry is evil and comparing the price of flesh with the price of gold.
My second project depicts memories from my childhood that have since changed as I reflect on them as an adult. As a kid watching Tom and Jerry, I remember laughing at the antics of those lifetime rivals, but now, I recognize that it I was just watching a cat and mouse brutally murder each other in every episode. This piece shows the only way the show could finally, tragically, end. The second piece shows my feeling lost when returning to a place in my past because it doesn’t match up to my remembrance.
